Who we Are:
Artis Confinium is a project born in the walls of the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague in the Netherlands in June 2022.
This trio composed by Niccolò Angioni on trumpet / flugelhorn, Davide Sgarra on clarinet / Bass Clarinet and Stefano Gullo on guitar / arrangements, promises to be an interesting project and the idea of being able to present a repertoire of pieces composed by European authors of the XXcentury and rearranging them in a Jazz key is certainly compelling.
The members of this ensemble, after having developed a certain experience in the jazz field, thanks to the opportunities of being able to relate to big international names as : Chris Cheek, Miho Hazama, Ambrosie Ankimusire, Vince Mendoza, Metropole Orkest …
The Repertoire:
The trio have decided to bring their Jazz language in the High-cultured music of the twentieth century, thus challenging the boundary that separates these two forms of art (Artis Confinium).
The lack of rhythmic elements such as bass and drums make the music rarefied and suspended, the compositions are crepuscular and melancholic and range from Ravel and Debussy to Bartok's folklore, from Messiaen to Shostakovich.
The different expressive personality of the three is very evident in all the compositions and musical reinterpretation, which are equally distributed among the three that communicate beautifully; they come together in a balance that results in a relay race between the two melodic instruments complemented by the accompaniment / interplay of the guitar, to the point of almost being a conversation between the three.
Why us:
This project is presented with the aim of bringing one's vision of European music to an international environment; thus presenting a repertoire that can be suitable both in situations where the listener is attentive and curious in hearing a more refined music and for an audience that simply wants to relax, presenting a repertoire that is easy to listen to.
